A Guide To Beyoğlu

This guide covers the part of Istanbul known as Beyoğlu, the district lying to the north of the old city of Constantinople, and separated from it by the waters of the Golden Horn. Following a general historic introduction, the book is divided into a series of walking tours, describing Beyoğlus major monumentsmosques, churches, synagogues, as well as the houses and commercial buildings of the late Ottoman era and the early years of the Turkish Republic. Although the guide focuses on the districts rich past, Beyoğlus contemporary character is also portrayed, particularly its renowned night-life.
